Two Oh Man’s for this week.
1. They busted the LHC ! WTF were you doing Brian?
No, seriously, they LHC had an electrical failure in one section where some electrical do-hickey burnt out and needs to be repaired. Trouble is that it is one of the superconducting electro-magents and they are cooled to nearly absolute zero, meaning that a whole section of the LHC will have to be emptied of the tonnes of gas that is used to keep it cool and get it all warmed up so that technicians can go inside to fix the issue.
The good news is that they didnt really bust it big, just a little, but still, this means that the LHC wont be running for another two months at least.
2. Hollman AFB has but the brakes on the X-Prize Cup and it has been postponed for at least a month.
I suppose a new venue is being looked for as I type and lots of other things too no doubt, like permit changes etc.
I cant help but feel a little dissapointed for Armadillo Aerospace over this though, they will complete the challenges of stage 1 and 2 this year as they have all their hardware sorted now, but does an extra month give the other teams enough time to get something flying?
I kind of doubt it, although there are a few teams with hardware in the air now, albeit in highly unreliable interations.

The FANTASTIC news is that Las Cruices has picked up the XPrize Cup and is running with it THIS Weekend, on schedule.
Armadillo and True Zero are the only competitors.
All the best of luck to the both of them and I hope that Armadillo walk away with the Level 1 and Level 2 first places while True Zero pick up at least a second on the Level 2.
